Technical and Adaptable Training in Solar PV and E-Mobility (Renewable Energy) for Women

Timeline: 2025-2027

Amount of Young Women 50 100 200 400
Funds EUR 61.000 EUR 130.000 EUR 262.000 EUR 385.000

Why?

Lack of urgency and tangible solutions

  • 23 million young people in Africa are currently unemployed, with projections for 2030 indicating an increase to 27 million. Additionally, 40% of those employed are experiencing working poverty, earning between US$ 2.15 and US$ 3.65 per day.
  • There is high unemployment rate among the youth, particularly young women, who have been historically marginalized from the workforce.

Objective

Untapped renewable energy potential

  • East Africa boasts considerable untapped potential in solar, wind, and geothermal energy sources. Finite energy sources are often imported, requiring foreign currency payments, making local renewable energy solutions more critical in the economy. Ensuring the population is equipped with the necessary skills play a vital role in the development of technical and adaptable training in Solar PV and E-Mobility (renewable energy) for women.

Equip young talents to seize their opportunity with Solar PV and E-mobility

  • We exemplify the benefits of the renewable energy in driving economic development, and the creation of job opportunities for young graduates.

What?

Technical training in Solar PV and E-mobility

  • Focus on clear professional pathways for trainees, ensuring the finding of relevant employment in their own locations.
  • Address the specific obstacles in semi-rural areas and opportunities within local contexts.

How?

Training both at the metropolitan and semi-rural level

  • Many talented individuals interested in renewable energy cannot afford to travel and stay in metropolitan areas for education.
  • Three (3) weeks technical training program complemented with ‘smart specialization’.

Linking training with activities before and during job acquisition

  • Job competent is more than technical know-how. It is complemented with soft skills and activities that acknowledge the current challenges of the job market. Therefore, we aim to develop trainings that connect practical and credible resources for trainees to improve their job conditions like:
    • Innovative business skills to further develop one’s skills.
    • Understanding the needed resources to ensure a safe work environment.
    • Innovative business skills to develop oneself as self-employed.
